tropical lanterns

These woven lanterns remind me so much of some chandeliers we saw in a restaurant in Maui.  I love this look, it makes an otherwise sleek and modern kitchen look a little more relaxed and fun!

walking on clouds

Hello my Lovelies!  I hope everyone had a great couple of weeks while I was gone.  I am back, full of wonderful memories of the wedding, blissfully happy from the honeymoon and a little bit tanner!

I can honestly say that my wedding day was the happiest day of my life.  The setting was beautiful, the weather was perfect (except for a two minute sprinkle for good luck!), the food was amazing and I got to marry the man of my dreams in front of all of our closest friends and family.  I couldn't have asked for anything more!

The entire celebration took place in the backyard of a large estate on the water.  The gardens were in full bloom, the sailboats were all out and the view was simply spectacular.  The ceremony took place down by the water, the cocktail hour on the lawn and the reception in a large white tent.

The florist did an amazing job with all of the bouquets, centerpieces and overall decor.  Everything came out just as I had imagined, maybe even better!  We had peonies, hydrangeas, freesia, roses...
all in light pinks, creams and whites.

The ceremony was breathtaking.  We stood under a simple chuppah made of birch tree branches with a sheer, white fabric blowing in the breeze.  While the rabbi told our story to our guests, I kept taking mental notes of the words he was saying, the sailboats on the water, the smell of the grass and the flowers and thinking "don't forget this, remember it all!"

Afterward, we sipped passionfruit mojitos, ate the most delicious food and cake and danced the night away with everyone near and dear to us.  It was the most fun I've ever had, I didn't want the night to end!

(The cake was made with white chocolate ganache with layers of strawberries, custard and chocolate... yum!)

And now that we're back from the honeymoon, I keep looking back and thinking that I wouldn't have changed a single thing.  It was perfect!

children's rooms

As an ode to father's day, I thought I would do a blog about children's rooms. My daughter is still quite young and in a nursery that I designed for her, but I can't wait until she is old enough to design a room together. Here are some rooms with a lot of character and sophistication that are still appropriate for children.

This is one classy boys room. The room is actually very subdued color-wise and accents are brought in with bedding, the rug and furniture. A common mistake when designing a child's room is people go overboard with color. My advice, do less color with the decor and use toys, bedding and furniture to make the room fun.

Ok this room might not be a children's room per se, but I love the idea of turning a black and white pic into wallpaper for a playroom or shared space for kids.

Really enjoy large maps in kids spaces. They are functional and very cool.

For a teenage girl, whimsical yet sophisticated.

My favorite thing in the whole world as a child was to build tents and play under them for hours with my brother and sister. I just love this tent with a little chandelier in it!! So fun.

This room is uber sophisticated with the very well done built-ins and beautiful finishes. But I can just picture spending time in here as a kid with all my cousins or friends. Its very approachable for children because of the low furniture and floor cushions and cozy bunk beds. Its good to remember kids often feel more comfortable in small spaces, so if you have a designated large room you are using for kids, try to make it feel more intimate for them.

edison lamps and chandeliers

Thomas Edison invented the light bulb, then someone came along inventing the lamp shade, hiding the simple elegance of the bulb itself. Recently, lighting designers have been going back to basics and designing edison lamps and chandeliers that show off the beauty of light bulb. Below are some examples of this trend at its best. I love the juxtaposition with very elegant furniture and decor.

headboards

Headboards are always an area of interest for people when decorating their homes. So often I walk into a friend or clients home and see the same old silhouette, boring wood and plain upholstered leather. Below are some unique headboards that create a show stopping bedroom.

the time has come

Let me first start by apologizing for my absence lately.  The past week has been a bit chaotic as I approach the big day, and it is almost here!  After five and a half years together, this Saturday we will finally say those two little words to each other... "I do".  I just can't believe it's finally here, break out the bubbly!

Our entire celebration from the vows to an evening sparkler sendoff will be taking place outside, so please keep your fingers crossed for good weather!

After a year of planning, I cannot wait to see how it all comes together.  We brought all of our wedding "stuff" up to the house today and met with the caterer and I am so confident that it's going to be absolutely perfect.  I can't wait to taste the delicious food and our cake!!  (I will definitely be indulging in a big piece of cake)  This one looks a little similar to what ours will be (but ours isn't so ruffly and has real peonies).  Find out how to make this one yourself here!

I'm just so excited to see our friends and family and dance the night away.  And afterward, I get to enjoy two weeks on the beaches of Hawaii with my new hubby!

While I'm out, I'm sure Ariana will keep you inspired.  So for now, goodbye!  I'm off to get married!!
