full of surprises

Surprise #1:  Yes, I finally got my house in the suburbs!

First of all, I want to thank Ariana for being so on top of blogging the last couple of weeks while I've been packing, moving, unpacking and trying to get settled in to our new home.  Life has been a little hectic, to say the least, and she has been a godsend!

As I sit here in my new home office amongst the gazillion boxes of files, catalogs and fabric swatches that desperately need to be put away (looking for the perfect shelving unit) I feel so overwhelmed and yet so incredibly happy at the same time.  Moving from a condo in NYC to a big house in the suburbs can bring on a lot of anxiety - we need more furniture to fill this place, the 1950's kitchen has got to go (no, it's not the cute version of the 50's), it's so dark up here at night and it's so darn quiet!  But, the house itself is beautiful.  We've got plenty of room to grow (stay tuned for surprise #2), I can actually get all my errands done at once and not have to worry about cabs/subways/carrying 20 heavy bags, and we have a big backyard!  So, while it's still quite an adjustment, I absolutely love living in the suburbs again!

Surprise #2:  Yes, I said we have plenty of room to grow now - and that means starting a family.  I am happy to announce that I am officially 22 weeks pregnant!  My husband and I brought back a slowly growing belly from our honeymoon in Hawaii this summer and can't wait to meet our little girl in a few months! :)  That means - it's almost time to get started on a nursery!  (One of my favorite rooms to design.)  So, let's get started with some great nursery accessories I've come across during my recent searches - not all specifically for my nursery, but just for fun.   And don't worry, I'll take pictures of our progress and share along the way!

pink love

As breast cancer awareness month comes to a close, here is an ode to the beautiful color pink. In memory of all mothers, grandmothers, sisters, aunts, friends and loved once we have lost to the fight - we love and remember you always. For all who have survived, you are such inspirations. For all who are still fighting, our love and support is with you.

balanced living

Living rooms are a hard room for anyone to design...even designers. We think its important to find the right mix of function, balance and beauty. Gone are the days where people want uncomfortable pretty living rooms that no one uses. Below are some inspiring images of fun youthful rooms with the perfect balance of glam and comfort.

the magic of bold art

Something I learned early on as an interior designer is the magic of a great piece of art. Bold art gives any room that extra pizzaz if often needs. Don't be afraid to mix styles of art and furniture.... the result is fresh and young. One of my favorite design teams is the Novogratz. They do a fantastic job of incorporating fun fresh art into all of their projects. Below are a few of their projects along with a few others I enjoy!

happy moving day!

Happy Moving Day to Ali, Pete, Emma and Abe! Inspired by the country life, here are a few exteriors we love.

I know you've seen it a million times....but it's just so good! Balanced yet asymmetrical. Love the mix of furniture styles. The room is dashed with color yet still neutral and soothing. And those built-ins....perfection.

rustic dining rooms

On this rainy morning in the Northeast, we are inspired by some very cozy and rustic dining rooms as we search for inspiration for a client. Below are some of our favorites.

neutral bedrooms

Bedrooms should be soothing calm places we retreat in. The best way to achieve this is with a neutral soft palette. Below are some examples of a neutral palette done in several styles.... country, rustic and sophisticated.

Here are some tips of the trade:
  • Use panel drapes to soften your space
  • Put a bench at the end of the bed
  • Keep your wall color soft and airy
  • Mix and match your side tables for visual interest
  • Don't forget a fun chandelier or light fixture to create alittle sophistication for your space

pretty pumpkins

Just came across these beautiful hand painted pumpkins on Creature Comforts and I'm in love!  I would never have the time or patience to do this myself, but if you do, find out how to recreate these magical little gourds for yourself on Alisa Burke.

punchy colors

While putting together an inspiration board for a clients nursery, I came across these images that are inspiring our bold punchy palette. The mix of fuchsia, orange and violet are fun and unexpected but oh so pretty together.
