the magic of bold art

Something I learned early on as an interior designer is the magic of a great piece of art. Bold art gives any room that extra pizzaz if often needs. Don't be afraid to mix styles of art and furniture.... the result is fresh and young. One of my favorite design teams is the Novogratz. They do a fantastic job of incorporating fun fresh art into all of their projects. Below are a few of their projects along with a few others I enjoy!

random art

I'm looking for inspiration to rearrange the art on the wall behind my dining table.  The wall is painted a blue-grey color and I've been collecting a bunch of random frames to paint white and hang randomly.  Also working on gathering a combination of paintings and photos, I love a mismatched look.  So, I've been going back to old images I saved a long time ago on my old computer (I apologize, I don't remember the sources of a few!) and have found a bunch of new photos that look really beautiful.  Here are a few of my favorites!

Just for fun!  So cute, who needs frames?

Okay, the actual photos creep me out a little in this one, too many David's and David want-to-be's.  But love the frame display...

etsy find: jennifer squires

I've been searching for artwork all day for a client and came across an Etsy shop with the most serene, peaceful photographs.  Jennifer Squires is the photographer and her work makes me wish I could hop into the car and drive until I find an abandoned lake shore and then just sit there for hours.  I used to live near Lake Erie, where a lot of her lake pictures are taken, and I don't remember it ever looking so beautiful.  Maybe next time I go home to visit I should take a little day trip to watch the sunset over the water.  I guess I just never took the time to do that!

cork art

I've heard of using corks to make your own trivets for the kitchen (my dad is good at that), but this takes cork creativity to a whole new level!

mumbai luxury

Ashiesh Shah, decorator to Bollywood actors, has taken a small, two bedroom duplex in Mumbai and opened it up into an airy studio filled with antiques and artwork that you won't find anywhere else.  His combination of modern, crisp pieces alongside ancient treasures has created a space of both comfort and history... not an easy task!

Check out the first four steps, they open up like drawers for added storage!

writing on the wall

I love the idea of keeping a chalkboard in the home.  Whether it's used for to-do lists, notes, inspirational quotes or as a creative outlet for children, they can be a great way to add some fun as well as function to your space.

Go to Country Living or Design Sponge to find out how to make your own chalkboard with paint!
